Concern remains high in Garrett County about the number of young people and families who leave our community in pursuit of different opportunities. The speculation has long been that it's the lack of living-wage and family-sustaining wages that drives them away. Is the lack of jobs the only reason? Are there other concerns about our community and other unaddressed needs that young people hope can be fulfilled elsewhere?
Engage Mountain Maryland hosted a group of energized, young individuals between the ages of 18 to 35 to share their perspectives, concerns, and dreams for Garrett County. The lively debate touched on deep issues that, if addressed and resolved, could transform Garrett County into a youth-friendly environment for generations to come.
