The Discount Duo business plan presented by co-owners Brian Bowers and Rob Beckman won first-prize at this year's Power of Possibilites (POP). They were presented with a one-thousand dollar check by presenter, Jodi McClintock. POP is a program at Garrett College, designed to assist entrepreneurs in building viable business plans and encourage ingenuity in the community. The program culminates in each participant presenting their completed business plans as part of the annual competition.
The Oakland retail store opened the first week of April with brand name clothing, shoes, home decor, tools, bikes, accessories, and more.
Discount Duo has approximately 2,400 square feet of retail space and 1,200 square feet of warehouse space. In the new storefront and on their e-commerce website, Discount Duo will supply products that would normally be found in big-box and department stores. Well-known brands, such as Tommy Hilfiger, Victoria’s Secret PINK, Guess, Michael Kors, The North Face, Vera Bradley, Toms, Polo and more will be deeply discounted off retail prices. The shop's mission is to make well-known brands and products convenient to Garrett County residents.
“I have a background in purchasing, and I saw a need we could fill here in our community," shares co-owner Brian Bowers. "Now customers don’t have to travel over an hour away to get new and discounted brand, name items.”
A grand opening celebration event is being planned for mid-May.
