Vaping among children as young as age 10 is raising alarms for Garrett County parents and educators who are seeing a massive, visible surge of nicotine addiction and device abuse unfolding within communities. In response, a new project, ThriveAbility Co, has formed to raise immediate public awareness, protect children’s well-being, and advocate for systemic, proactive change.

What is your VQ?

Five Facts You Should Know About Vaping.

I. Vaping is just as addictive as traditional smoking. Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine—sometimes even higher amounts than regular cigarettes.

II. It is not considered a safe way to quit smoking. E-cigarettes are not officially approved by the FDA as smoking cessation tools.

III. Vapor is not harmless "water." The aerosol exhaled into the air contains a dangerous mix of ultrafine particles, volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, and unknown chemical additives.

IV. Emerging data links longterm vaping to chronic disease, such as chronic lung disease, asthma, and elevated risks of cardiovascular disease.

V. Vaping hooks a new generation by marketing sleek designs and flavored e-liquids, which seduces a new generation to nicotine addiction.
